Gua Sha; Your New Best friend For Stubborn Neck & Shoulder Pain
Gua Sha is a healing technique used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is defined as an “instrument -assisted unidirectional press-stroking of a lubricated area of the body surface to intentionally create transitory therapeutic petechiae called “sha” representing extravasation of blood in the subcutis.”
Modern research shows that the “sha” produces an anti inflammatory and immune protective effect that lasts for days after treatment.
Most patients experience immediate pain relief and increased range of motion after receiving a few minutes of gua sha to the neck and shoulders. This tools works very well to find and help break up knots in the muscles.
After a treatment, it is important to keep the area covered and drink plenty of fluids. The “sha” may appear on the skin for several days, but should be gone within a week.
At Chrystal Clinic, Gua Sha is included in private acupuncture sessions - if needed. It is also used in combination with cups during a cupping treatment.
